How To Be Successful

This was written over 140 years ago, but it is still correct…I have added some modern definitions to words no longer used in the common language.

HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL
You want some good advice?

1. Rise early. -Don’t Dream away the day…

2. Be abstemious. -Have one beer, instead of a case of beer…

3. Be frugal. -Not exactly, be cheap, but be careful to spend your money so that every expense benefits you today and into the future. If you must have a game, buy it used…

4. Attend to your own business and never trust it to another. -When someone tells you they will ‘cover’ for you, don’t believe them. Do it yourself…

5. Be not afraid to work, and diligently, too, with your own hands. -Get out of bed, get off your rear. Learn your business, from the ground up and even when you hire people keep doing the grunt work on occasion.

6. Good manners insure success. -Look at politicians, most are thieves and criminals and yet good manners have made them ‘successful’…

7. Accomplish what you undertake. -Finish what you start…

8. Decide, then persevere. Diligence and industry overcome all difficulties. -Stop following the ‘newest trend’, the ‘latest fad’, when you have decided what you want, concentrate on that path…

9. Never be mean--rather give than take the odd shilling. -Don’t steal from another…

10. Never postpone till to-morrow what can be done to-day. -Do it…

11. Never anticipate wealth from any source but labor. -Welfare can not be counted on, there are all of the illegal’s sucking on the system. There is nothing left for you…

12. Honesty is not only the best policy, but the only policy. -Sooner or later those criminal acts will show up and bite you in the…

13. Commence at the first round and keep climbing. -Do not quit…

14. Make your word as good as your bond. -Do not flap your mouth with empty words, false promises
… You are what you say…

15. Seek knowledge to plan, enterprise to execute, honesty to govern all. -Use your spare time to learn and grow for you tomorrows…

16. Never over trade. -Do not over promise…

17. Never give too large credit. -Do not loan out what you do not have in spare change…

18. Time is money. Reckon the hours of the day as so many dollars, the minutes as so many cents. -Two hours on the phone with your ‘best’ friend is worth how much money to you???

19. Make few promises. -You have to keep the promises you make and break promises you shouldn’t have made…

20. Keep your secrets. -Loose lips sink ships. Your ‘best’ friend will probably not be your best friend in a week, month or year. They will then have some great dirt to dish out on you…

21. Live within your income. -Live high on the hog today and spend the rest of your life getting out of the debt…

22. Sobriety above all things. -Look at the drunks and dopers (legal and illegal dopers) that you know, even the ones who gained success didn’t keep it long. Most of the drunks and dopers are 100% failures, is that what you want for yourself???

23. Luck is a word that does not apply to a successful
person. -You make your own ‘luck’, by your actions today, tonight and tomorrow…

24. Not too much caution--slow but sure is the thing. The highest monuments are built piece by piece. Step by step we mount the pyramids. -While on your chosen path, as you take this step, be plotting and planning your next step, be prepared to take that step and then take it…

25. Be bold--be resolute when the clouds gather, difficulties
are surmounted by opposition. -When you get knocked down get up and keep going

26. Self-confidence, self-reliance is your capital. -Find your strengths, work around your weaknesses, know yourself…

27. Your conscience the best monitor. -Do you feel good in your gut about what you plan to do… Do you feel good in your gut about what you just did???

28. Never be over-sanguine, but do not underrate your own abilities. -Empty words won’t make you great, but self put downs can destroy you…

29. Don't be discouraged.

30. Ninety-nine may say no, the hundredth, yes: take off your coat: roll up your sleeves, don't be afraid of manual labor! -It would be the pits to quit when one more step would have brought you success…

31. America is large enough for all--strike out for the west. Just because something has already been done, doesn’t mean you can’t do it even better…

32. The best letter of introduction is your own energy. -You can build on your past successes, but you can’t rest on your past successes…

33. Lean on yourself when you walk.

34. Keep good company. -Look at the company you keep, they are the reflection of you. Are they what you want to be???

35. Keep out of politics unless you are sure to win--you are never sure to win, so look out.

America has three branches of government, the judicial, the legislative and the executive. There is only one profession that can not hold elective or appointed public office in America, that is the profession of lawyers/attorneys/barristers. Members of this profession are life members of the judicial branch of government and can not act a as a watchdog, in any branch of government, including the judicial branch of government.

The Supreme Court ruled on this over a hundred years ago…

Did you know that every time you voted for a lawyer for public office you were committing a constitutional breach?
